I have surrendered to the fact that I am a Larry Correia fanboy. I affirm that I am powerless over Larry Correia. And the newest and long-awaited MHI novel was released today – and I actually noticed, which nails down the fanboy thing. But twenty bucks for hardback?
Augggh…
No.
I looked for the release date on the paperback and it’s Next February.
Will I pay the extra twelve bucks not to wait till February?
Augggh! Maybe.
Gotta work myself up to it though. And anyway I don’t presently have twenty bucks, so I’m saved.
But sheesh. It’s just, as Tam said, a ‘great big Internet gun nerd inside joke.’ Thus not important. Thus not a thing for money to be spent on, except on discount. But Joel wants.

Get kindle for PC, It’s a free download from Amazon and it offers some great books for free.
Amazon offer the older kindles refurbished for a good price!
I second what Jamie says. Kindle for PC works great.
Seems to me I went through this once before. There doesn’t seem to be an app that works with Linux.
Understanding that you may be bandwidth-challenged, and not knowing what amount of bandwidth is needed for acceptable use, have you looked at Amazon Cloud Reader?

There is no Kindle software for linux desktop. You could buy a cheap android tablet, or you can just go right to Baen and buy in all the formats. http://www.baenebooks.com/p-2399-monster-hunter-nemesis.aspx
And if you can wait for tonight I can email you a coupon that will be good for most or all of the $9.99
I mostly buy used from HPB. Often, new books show up within a week as discounted used books. You still pay for shipping, so watch for that.

Tragically… you’re doomed. Kindles (or similar devices) simply win. They stomp everything from bookstores to cheap used paperbacks to dust. I wanted them to fade into obscurity as nerdy gadgets but some things are just too awesome to be stopped. In 2011 I wrote about how I was desperately trying to hate Kindles and failing. (http://adaptivecurmudgeon.wordpress.com/2011/07/27/my-theory-has-a-hole-in-it/) Ten months later Kindles owned me lock stock and barrel. (http://adaptivecurmudgeon.wordpress.com/2012/05/18/e-books-resistance-is-futile/) By now, waiting for a hardcover would seem like waiting to have stone tablets carved. If it makes you feel better, it’s easier to charge a Kindle from a truck battery than a laptop and I’ve only broken two of them.
The first time I used the Kindle app on my phone and it automagically picked up on the page I’d left off reading on my iPad, I gave a little squee. And I resisted ebooks for a long time.
Email me, Joel.
If he didn’t select DRM (and what freedom lover would?) when he published it. You can get the file from fans like Tam. Also Firefox has a ad on that will allow reading ePUB files in the browser.
I’ve had the ebook since the 15th and I haven’t started it yet, what kind of fanboy am I?
Will Kindle for PC run in WINE? I know that Barnes & Noble’s Nook PC app will, but I’ve never tried the Kindle one.
Also, IIRC, Larry Correia is still publishing with Baen, so you can get the book from their e-store instead of from Amazon, and it will be DRM-free. You could then use Calibre as a reader. Not only does it run natively in linux, but if you do get a reader later on, it will work as a library manager for transferring your books, including converting them to the appropriate format for whatever e-reader you get.
