Heading out for the Monday morning water run…

…it occurred to me: I sure am bundled up for late May.

Cold, windy, driving heavy rain…this is May in the desert?

Big Brother is on his way back to the Big City. I just this minute got a text from him – he has run into snow.

I should be sitting on my porch smiling contentedly at its new roof and plotting the trim and paint scheme, and instead the sideways rain has rendered it uninhabitable.

This sucks.

  1. So far we’re just fogged in, but the forecast is for 2-4 inches of snow overnight. Spoke too soon – it’s snowing already. Good day for a slow cooked pot roast and just cooling it at home.

  2. Norman says:

Swing-out louvered sun shades a la Caribbean houses. Raised they provide shade, lowered, they keep out (most of) the rain, and won’t interfere with the screening-in you do as next year’s project….

As for temps, I’m a bit jealous – our forecast here is for a week of ~100F. I’d be glad to send you about 25 degrees of that….

And this is why, in the fullness of time, decks that sprout a roof to become a proper porch eventually get enclosed with lower-half siding and upper-half combination screens & storm windows to become an all-season room. It’s the creeping sububanization of all older houses. Insidious and inevitable “domestication” of rural retreats everywhere. Resistance is futile. Next will be a two-Jeep detached garage with connecting breezeway.

    😉 😉 😉

Snow? Seriously, snow? Global warming, ain’t it grand? I hope your big bro’s travels aren’t hindered by the white stuff.

  5. Joel says:

I would have hesitated to make the claim without photographic evidence. But yeah. Snow.

Also I was in the dollar store this morning and a delivery driver was complaining about all the snow on the Interstate.

  6. Judy says:

Snow on the Interstate?! I may have to re-plot my course for our trip to Kansas later this week, if this keeps up. Oh, and the weather guessers say the high in Phoenix is going to be 71 Wednesday. I believe y’all are about 20 to 30 degrees cooler than we are, may need to throw in something more than a sweatshirt.

  7. Zelda says:

Kentucky nailed it. Resistance really is futile. The Mr. Suburban Man lifestyle you’ve worked so hard to evade has caught up with you. ROTF When is BB coming back???

To the stake with the heretic!
