(Via Weer’d, who has more interesting things to say about it than I do.)
Why, O Wise One, do you even feel a need to ‘change the gun culture?’ Other than its obvious childish absurdity, that is?
Y’know, I want a job where I get paid to proclaim my opinions, with no obligation to defend them with anything remotely resembling facts, and everybody’s expected to accept that as Olympian Wisdom just because it comes from me. That would be cool. Probably corrupting as hell, but cool.

It’s infuriating when an ‘expert’ makes claims without proper citation- mostly because I have always FELT, I have always BELIEVED, that ‘Expert’ should mean a strong familiarity with a subject, and therefore would indicate a HIGHER likelihood to have evidence and research to support your claims. Rather, it appears to be just the opposite; the more ‘Expert’ the individual is, the more likely it is that they will disregard the use of facts and rely solely on their expertise to support their statement.
Also, the concept of asymmetrical warfare is proving not inconsequential for military forces worldwide. Considering the order of magnitude difference between number of arms in Texas vs Mali, and the weighted likelihood that a civilian force would be populated with engineers, geeks, tinkers, vets, and gamers, give us a bit of time under pressure and I bet we could be a great deal more successful at producing drones and missiles than, say, North Korea. For evidence, look at Syria- this guy seems to have missed that memo.
“Expert” quite often means “expert at telling the government what they want to hear,” not anything to do with the actual subject matter.
What a blithering idiot.
Even if he were able and willing to actually document his blather, we would have to consider the source of his “facts.” Statistics don’t lie, but liars use statistics. I much prefer to see such idiots use their “faith” and their opinions. A lot of people are fooled by statistics, but may see through such insubstantial nonsense.
The premise of the “expert” is also vitally important. A vegetarian and a paleo diet proponent may both be honest and sincere, and both may have lots of “facts” to back up their position, but they come to totally different conclusions because of their very different basic premise.
Not that this cretin in honest or sincere, of course. But how people process this sort of thing also depends very much on their premise… what they believe to start with. Very few are starting from a neutral position.
