Hey, remember that time the American government interfered with a foreign election?

Well, after all it was a million years ago. Okay – it was three years ago.

It wasn’t a scandal, though. It was Making the World a Better Place.

“The [center-left] bloc has not been able to unify around a common message, a common agenda, or a strong leader. Our aim is to strengthen the bloc, rather than any one party, [and] in tandem weaken Netanyahu and his right wing parties.”

Also – Surprise! The senate was completely powerless to investigate because gosh darn it…

The [State] Department later told the Subcommittee it was unable to find the email chain because it was not retained.

Amazing how often that happens – and how often it works.

But never mind. Russians!

  1. Judy says:

We as a nation have interfered with the internal workings of sovereign nations for almost as long as we have been a nation ourselves. And correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t The Constitution say that’s a no-no, we are to mind our own business.

  2. Mark Matis says:

Ah, but Judy, that Constitution was written by pale stale white males, and thus is not even fit to be used to line a bird cage. And that is according to at least four justices on the “Supreme” court.

  3. Zelda says:

And if we were minding our own business perhaps there would be time and money to harden our electric grid and focus on distributed power instead of or in combination with a grid. Oh and the trillions of dollars we’ve spent building roads, schools, water treatment plants and power plants in the Middle East – that were subsequently blown up by folks who preferred to live more simply, or something – could have solarized our country with cash to spare for upgrading our own inadequate water treatment plants, roads and schools.

  5. Read a book by (the late) Jonathan Kwitney almost 30 years ago – “Endless Enemies: The Making of an Unfriendly World (1984)” that really cured any notion that anything the US govt does re: foreign policy is altruistic or benign.

To the stake with the heretic!
