I am an unfaithful lover…

I am not a gun nut, having spent too much time in the company of Ian and friends to ever again claim that title.

I am kind of a knife nut, though. And even though I’ve carried a knife very similar to the one being made below for a year and still love it a lot, and it’s faithful and true and tends to my every (knife-related) need and never lets me down … well, I guess I’m a fickle lover. Because I watched this video over coffee this morning and had to keep reminding myself, “Joel, you carry a better one than that, for god’s sake…”

Yes. Mine is better.

About Joel

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

Your knife sure is better not only in looks but in quality. Personally I’ve been looking around for a nice fixed blade knife to replace the folder I carry. The criteria is a total length no longer than 6.5 inches with a 2.5 inch blade of good steel. So far the ideal knife is the City Knife by Bark River, but I fear it’s out of production.

I had some input into the appearance, and one thing I wanted was a substantial tool-like handle. But I didn’t know how the steel would perform until I used it for a few months, and it has never let me down. It’s ground to a sustainable angle, so touching it up on a couple of crocksticks maintains rather than ruin the edge. After a year of constant EDC use it’s no longer dangerous to be near – which in my opinion is too sharp – but it’ll still go through bailing twine at a touch and it wants to bite into wood rather than sliding off the surface.

Joel – there is nothing wrong with looking/admiring…when you stop, you might as well be dead.

😀 That’s what I used to tell my wife. She had other opinions.

Judy/Joel: Yah, but a knife won’t judge you. Everybody in favor of Joel having both of ’em, raise your hands! See? Go for it.

Joel, I’m a knife fan myself and agree with you that not a thing wrong with what you are carrying right there. Nice. shape, drop points generally won’t end up biting the hand that holds it. Handle is shaped for working with long periods of time too, no hard edges like many folders out there.

My Schrade Sharpfinger (#152OT) for example will cut you if you aren’t careful. That upswept tip, just a bit too much ‘pointy’. But a great knife nonetheless.
