…and yet, in those few moments when I find myself taking American governance seriously – usually when I’m a bit in my cups – I do wonder if I shouldn’t be appalled at the fact that all national-level political questions are now decided by counting which geriatric judges are “liberal” or “conservative.” Is that in the Constitution really?
