I’m trying to remember the last time I got excited by anything the Libertarian Party did…

…and it’s just not coming.

I was somewhat excited when I worked on the Ed Clark for president campaign. (I was quite young then) He was a really nice guy, a quiet and friendly man who had no more business (or actual interest) in being POTUS than your average liberty minded person. And, of course, there never was any chance that he would “win.” For which he was very grateful.

Not much excitement before that, and none since…

You know, if you were to press me about my party affiliation and somehow the word “independent” didn’t get you off my back, I might tell you that I was a Libertarian. That would be a fairly honest answer because it’s the party whose expressed basic ideals are closest to my actual beliefs.

But that doesn’t mean that I subscribe to their platform, could name even one Libertarian candidate or would ever want anything to do with the actual organization!

Generally, when asked about any party affiliation or political leanings, I respond with, “Me? Oh, I am a pine marten.” Then I smile. Many people simply nod and change the subject. Only a couple have asked why, letting me reply, “Because Pine Martens live in anarchy” which is a good way to open a conversation I enjoy. Or they can walk away. Why should I be bored?

Joel, everything you wrote today had me laughing. I’m up in Fairbanks now, here in our house, after it was rented for four years to—Yikes!—renters. I am still working on cleaning the first bathroom. And the kitchen. At least the house is still intact, just filthy.

Gives me something to complain about and a good excuse to take a lot of breaks to go outside and walk in the sun. And to truly enjoy everyone’s humor and pithy remarks of and about the day’s observations.

From the far, flourishing, photon-gobbling, Fairybanks forests of the North, I send regards and gratitude for your great attitude and entertaining way of stating it.
    Thank you

Thank you, Ilo. Enjoy Alaska while it’s in its buggy and boggy phase. 🙂

To the stake with the heretic!
