And I still didn’t make it to the top. But I’m not going to worry about it for a while. Maybe I’ll get a wild hair and cut up another four pallets, just so I can say all five tiers are all the way to the top. If so, I will surely photograph it. And maybe print it out and hang it on my wall.
Now I must let my back heal, and then get back to work on the Lair’s floor.

I guess the “warming you twice” aspect of the firewood wasn’t particularly welcome today.
Welcome to the TOFTS club. The new membership drive seems to be going gangbusters.
I notice that pile seemed to consist of disassembled pallets. But now I believe that you cut them apart instead. Was that pile left over from some previous year?
No, the pile was left over from the day before. In the latest iteration, my method for transforming old pallets into firewood takes place in two stages: Use a Sawzall to turn a pile of pallets into a pile of weathered lumber, then use a chop saw – sometimes a Sawzall if the nails are too thick – to turn the pile of lumber into a pile of stovewood. Preferably that pile develops right in the Jeep trailer, so then all I need is to drive it to the Lair.
