    There’s that modern education at work. You never want to correct or grade spelling, punctuation, or syntax because it might hurt their feelings or impose on their sense of self worth.

    And one of our local elementary schools is considering dropping spelling from its curriculum because “the kids will pick it up on their own as they progress” and they all have spell-check on their ‘phones and stuff and besides learning critical thinking is SO much more important . . .

    Sigh. We are truly doomed.

    Learning critical thinking is important, and there is little to no chance kids will learn it in school, that is the design intent of modern schooling.
