Busy busy busy! Today’s the day I see Daughter and Granddatter! (and Ari the Husband.) I threw on some clothes, wolfed down breakfast, gunned up, loaded the boys into the the Jeep for their trip to Gitmo. There’s shit to shovel, houses to clean, bread to bake, things to – er – hide.
Felt the Jeep get wallowy and weird in the wash. Stopped, looked at the tires.
Crap. Right rear’s damn near flat. Poo poo. Ca Ca. Other comments, mostly concerning the lineage of whoever left that nail wherever he left it.
I should have seen it coming. We took three trips out to the dump on Saturday, and every time I take the Jeep there I’m surprised when I emerge with any pressure in the tires at all.
But it ain’t no thing. Just an annoyance, even though I honestly don’t know where the Jeep’s spare is. I’ve got this tire plug kit right here, so I just limped it through the soft sand of the wash and up to Landlady’s place. I really should get one of those portable air compressors, but there’s a good one in Landlady’s barn.
Nice thing about tire plugs is that, if you can find the nail that’s causing the problem, you don’t even need to dismount the tire. Just yank out the nail, run a rasp through the hole, and shove in a nice sticky plug. I had the hole plugged before the compressor was done pressuring up.
I’ve got bread rising in the oven (it’s a little cool this morning), freshly-folded towels to take to Landlady’s house for the family. Now if I only knew when they were going to arrive…
Those tire plug kits are cheap and worth their weight in gold when you need ’em.
I have two in my rig, at a whopping $3.99 on sale.
That and a couple of cans of Fix A Flat and a foot pump.
Good to go.
The only thing they can’t do is fix a slash, then you do need a spare.
