Sir Christopher Lee dies at 93
What a voice, what a presence. He was in some real turkeys – in fact I’m having trouble thinking of a good movie he ever graced, other than LOTR. But he was always an improvement. And besides, I don’t ever remember a time when he wasn’t around, y’know?

I never saw him in anything but the LOTR movies, but he was perfect as Gandalf. Wonder what he died of… he was a relatively young man. Such a shame.
He carried his scenes in the Star Wars prequels, performing above and beyond the script and director.
MamaLiberty: Christopher Lee played Saruman. Ian McKellen was Gandalf.
Thanks, Jake. I was confused. I don’t generally see any movies, and watched parts of LOTR years ago, so my memory of them is bound to be bad. I’m glad that Gandalf is still with us. 🙂
He was great as scaramanga. (The man with the golden gun.)
Yeah he was, but that makes my point. The list of Bond flicks that were worse than that is short. Stipulating LOTR, was Lee in any good movies?
I certainly ate up my share of the Hammer horror series. He was the best part of 1941, and I enjoyed Serial. (He should have filmed an autobiography of his SAS service. Now THAT would be a movie!)
He was Rochefort in the 1974 Richard Lester Musketeer movies. Those were worthy movies. I also liked him as Blind Pew in the made-for-tv version of Treasure Island that starred Charlton Heston, although that was a more pedestrian production than the Musketeer films.
Damn. I thought that guy was going to live forever.
