So this week, through a couple of paying gigs, I found myself with $120 in my pocket. It’s one of the rare times this summer that that has happened.
At some point, the kitty can get so low that even receiving funds has a depressing element. You think of all the things you want to spend that cash on – and then you go spend it on eye drops for your glaucoma, because what you really don’t want is to go blind.
But I did need to spend some of it on five gallons of gasoline, and I did want to fill my water bottles with stuff that isn’t crunchy with calcium, and while in town I confess – bless me, readers, for I have sinned – I indulged myself.
Yum! Dear god meat has gotten expensive. $2.50 for a pound of the cheapest meat on the shelf, chunks of pork from don’t ask where on the pig. But it was meaty and it was fatty and it was going to look really good in my stew pot. And then I bought some fresh-ish veggies, and I went home and proceeded to flavor my rice and potatoes with something besides salt. About five extra dollars result in three hearty meals!
