Should have gotten an earlier start…

stairs
Got the concrete back stairs done this morning, along with the latch and corner posts for the kennel.

Should have gotten off my ass and off to work earlier, though…

sweat
…that’s the sunny side most of the day, and it pays to be finished with whatever you’re doing there before ninish because it heats up fast. Works to my advantage in winter, with that big window I put in the bathroom in 2015, because of all the free solar gain. Less well while futzing with concrete in summer.

But it’s done now. And if you’ll excuse me, I need a really thorough sink bath.

Dang, Joel. You been lifting weights every day?

Easy now, or you’ll be bustin’ out of that nice new hoodie…

Too bad you don’t have a stock tank you can use as a bathtub and take a nice long soak.

Good to see you using a back support. That sucker is the old fart’s friend. Got several, one just for holding things in place while taking it easy and a couple for working.

Don’t forget to snap a picture of your finished stairway. Will you be plastering it or just filling the holes and calling it done?

  4. Joel says:

Plan is to plaster it, Ben, but I may hold off a while. Now that the kennel is no longer in the way I think I want to expand it a bit – but maybe not right away. Depends. I have a lot of half-done projects I want to catch up with before it’s wood-cutting season.

Yeah, summer heat in August just plain sucks. Get it done in the early morning and when the sun ray’s begin to sting, call it a day. relearned that experience yesterday, going to pasture to cut huiscahe and mesquite with a pole saw. Had everything except for bar oil. Dammit – drove to nearby store for it, came back and worked for 2 hours (nearly noon). I was dragging butt and walking by a tree, noticed a branch I had missed. I’ll just cut it and wait until next time to haul it to burn pile. Got the bar stuck but GOOD. I was lucky the branch was low enough for me to stand on and jumping up and down, freed the bar with no damage. That was close !

Be careful and drink lots of liquids.
