The day turned unexpectedly sunny…

…but it’s not going to last. I went up to the top of the ridge to check the level in the water tank…

…which puts me at the very highest place in the little valley I think of as the Gulch proper!

And this evening’s weather is pretty clearly on the way…

It’s like a very early and minor-league version of Monsoon. But it’s still forecast to taper off over the weekend. And a surprising amount of mud has dried by mid-day today. I’m going to go make my last run to the other side of the plateau early, while I can do it with actual traction.

How much head do you have from the tank down to he Lair? And how was the level in the tank?

Would it be possible during deluges to leave the cover off with a screen on top to add pure rain water to the calcified well water?

A GPS I borrowed many years ago said it was right at 50 feet. Some more math-enabled readers have suggested that, based on the pressure at the sink, it’s more like 40. Right now the level is still quite high. It normally takes a really long time for me to use up a tank, which is why I was taken by surprise when it went empty in January.

I don’t think leaving the cover off would result in measurable water collection.

To the stake with the heretic!
