Hey, this is fun!

And if I stick with it, will teach me a lot more than I knew about what the game is up to.

Finally got some decent pix from the game camera…

During the day it was just a hundred pictures of common birds. For some reason I didn’t get a single bird pic yesterday. But as soon as it got dark…

This guy showed up, checked things out, and then apparently called his girlfriends.

Either they or other mulies showed up at intervals through the dark hours till about 4 AM. Surprising amount of deer movement during the night. Then this happened…

Of course you only see these guys at night, and not very often.

And then more deer.

So far no elk, which surprises me a little because I saw tracks and scat, and no hint of coyotes or other predators other than that owl, whose ancestors probably ate Zoe. But I’m going to leave the camera there for a while and see what else there is to see.

Deer and elk don’t like the same watering holes? Also surprised not to see at least a coyote. I would think a big cat would wonder through also.

Very nice, I may just have to part with a few shekels and get one of these cameras.. We have a lot of activity at night from squirrels right up to the occasional black bear. I would love to see what prowls around our place at night.

Game cams are fun. We have 2 set up on the property. One is on a trail, and the other is at the end of the field where the deer come out to see what treats the husband set out for them.
We have a coyote and a fox who go out the trail and then come back the same way quite regularly. And deer selfies are very popular. They look right at the camera, it’s pretty funny.

That buck, with those glowing eyes, looks like the HellBuck, if there is such a thing. Follow his tracks back to where he came from and don’t be surprised if you find a rocky hole in the ground reeking of sulfur vapors. 🙂

  5. I know you’ve said before the rabbits aren’t worth the trouble as a food source. Seems like a deer could fill up the larder — too much trouble?

I’m not a hunter by preference. But I’ve often thought that if I can learn what the deer do and where they go without the cattle around, I can live even if all the rest of the world goes to hell. Because there are certainly lots of deer.

To the stake with the heretic!
