The Lair’s wifi hotspot is going on a new Verizon account with increased bandwidth, and I’m also acquiring a secondhand smartphone with much increased bandwidth. Which means I’m leaving the proud ranks of those who brag about not having a smartphone.
Though technically I’m not yet sure if or how much I’ll be using it as a phone, so…
Honestly, in addition to the aforementioned impending kitten video addiction, what’s got me most excited about this development is that the phone is alleged to have a really kick-ass camera. My Tracfone has a camera that really ought to be labeled “Emergency Use Only.” You may have noticed that TUAK has been needing a new Official Camera for quite some time.
Not unusually for a person of my political/philosophical predilections, of course this development immediately triggered an internal crisis. Philosopher Joel whined, “Should I, like, feel guilty about this, or…” To which Pragmatist Joel grunted, “You’ve run a frickin’ lifestyle blog for nine years, Joel. Likely ‘they’ already know where to find you when they want you.”
So they both said “screw it” and went up to Ian’s to grab a cold beer, and forgot the whole thing. This new development is probably about 3 weeks away yet.

Well damn. It won’t be long before I’m the only one left with a dumb phone. Next thing you know, dumbphones will be obsolete and I’ll be forced into the 21st century. Oh how I hate that.
